How Many Credits Do You Need to be Eligible for Social Security Disability Insurance Benefits (SSDIB)


The amount of credits you need to be "insured" for SSDIB, depends on your age.  See the chart below.  But as you can see, it is "term" insurance, of a kind, and as such, some of those credits need to have been earned in the 10 years prior to the date you allege you became disabled (or the date the SSA determined you became disabled.  If not, you can not be found eligible for SSDIB.  If that happens, you may be eligible for SSI, so give us a call and we can see if that may be.  Or, you can use our affordable Q&A service.
